Chiang Mai struck by a 4.1 magnitude earthquake Thursday morning
Thailand’s northern province of Chiang Mai was struck by an earthquake of 4.1 magnitudes on the Richter scale, at 4.36 am this morning (Thursday). It was the strongest quake in the province in recorded history. Tremors were felt in the two neighboring provinces of Lamphun and Phayao, according to the Thai Meteorological Department.

Landslides continue to plague Phuket
Multiple landslides caused by torrential rain blocked traffic and caused blackouts in this southern tourist island on Thursday, but Phuket airport remained open.

TAT prepares new phase of subsidies
The new phase of the domestic tourism subsidy program is being drafted with an additional 3-4 million hotel rooms, double the number in the fourth phase, which is scheduled to end this month, as the government aims to push GDP growth to 3.3% this year.

Phuket police undergo drug tests, gun checks
A series of drug tests recently carried out on selected police officers in Phuket have so far all returned negative results, officials confirmed yesterday (Oct 19).

Man robs convenience store at gunpoint near Provincial Hall
Police took less than three hours to arrest a man who robbed a convenience store at gunpoint at the entrance to the Phuket Provincial Hall administration complex on Tha Kraeng Rd in Phuket Town yesterday (Oct 19).

A weather warning remains in effect
Despite the easing of heavy rains overnight and sunshine in places across Phuket today (Oct 20), the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) this morning reissued its weather warning for Phuket.
